Monday 7th June Begins 7:30pm Geelong Field Naturalists' Lecture ‘What's Killing our Trees and Forests?’
Presented by Dr Terry Blake, Professor of Plant Physiology, University of Toronto. A case will be made that environmental stress is weakening trees to the point where they lose vigour and become susceptible to secondary stress factors, particularly insects and disease. The Talk will focus on 3 issues:
  • What is dieback?
  • What are it's causes?
  • What can be done about it?

Monday 28th June Begins at 6pm Illustrated Talk ‘Botanic Gardens are a Place for Health & Wellbeing’
Presented by Assoc. Prof. Mardie Townsend PhD, Faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing & Behavioural Sciences, Deakin University. Gold coin donation appreciated.

Monday 26th July 12 noon Winter Lunch ‘Lecture and Lunch’
The speaker for this years Winter Lunch will be Dr Tim Hubbard, director of Heritage Matters Pty Ltd, consultants in the conservation of historic buildings, gardens, sites and landscapes who are based at Port Fairy in the south-west of Victoria. Dr Hubbard will give an illustrated talk on the social role of the late 19th Century . Guests will be welcomed with a glass of champagne on arrival.

Monday 30th August 6pm Annual General Meeting
Speaker Mr Scott Kerr, Friend of the RBG Melbourne, will present , a project of great historic significance. Learn about history, water conservation and the projects relevance to the Royal Botanic Gardens in the 21st C.

Monday 27th September 8:30am to 4:30pm Friends Discovery Day at RBG Melbourne join with Friends on a discovery day, including a guided tour of the Volcano Project and the New Caledonian Collection.
Cost: Friends $25.00, non-members $35.00
(BYO Lunch or purchase at the Cafe/Visitor Centre)
Bus departs Oval Carpark nearest to Ryrie Street toilet block at 8:30am

Take Timeout at the Teahouse!

When visiting the Geelong Botanic Gardens for a visit, occasion or walk you can support the Friends and the Gardens by visiting the Friends Teahouse.

Open from 11am to 4pm (except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Good Friday) the Teahouse provides light lunches, refreshments and selected gifts and plants from the Friends Nursery.

Group Bookings can also be catered for, including morning tea, light lunches and assistance with parties/group tours and afternoon teas.
