Membership

Of the over 520 members many are social members who enjoy the varied activities in the Events and Lecture Program, while others are also actively involved as volunteers with the Friends Library, Growers, Guides or the Tea House.

Meeting others with similar interests and Friends from regional and interstate gardens. Enjoying a program that includes lectures and presentations by leading horticulturists, conservationists, authors, botanic artists, botanists and historians and tours to other gardens and places of interest.

Please Note

Current Membership is essential to participate in the Friends activities working at the Botanic Gardens, (Tea House, Growers, Perennial Border, Guides, Library) to ensure members are informed about Friends and Botanic Gardens matters and also to provide current insurance cover for members.

Occasional Volunteering

Many other Friends do not have time to volunteer so regularly, but would like to help occasionally. As they do not know when extras are required, i.e. for the plant sales, music evenings or helping with an exhibition at the Gordon Institute Gallery it is difficult to respond.

If you are one of these and would be able to help occasionally, could you contact the Friends Office and leave your name, contact details and possible times you would be available. Someone can then contact you when extra volunteers are needed.

Of course, we always need extras ona more regular basis too, either as guides, helping in the Teahouse or in the nursery.

The first curator of the Geelong Botanic Gardens is featured as a bollard near the 19th Century Garden Gate. Daniel Bunce was a plantsman, a businessman, an adventurer and an author. To acknowledge and celebrate his contribution to the Geelong Botanic Gardens, the Friends are pleased to make available new editions of his “Manual of Practical Gardening”. How Do I Get There?

Situated in the Eastern Gardens by the Geelong Bay, the Botanic gardens can be easily reached by car, foot and a free bus service during the summer months. There is car parking either side of the 20th Century garden by the front with space for visiting buses. Visitors to Geelong can walk the beautiful bayside promenade from the city up to the Eastern Park. Naturally the garden has been mapped by Google Maps, which you can access when you click this link.
