Waterwise Gardening Expo

Wildflowers such as this native wax-lip orchid, grown in the 21st century garden are an excellent waterwise choice

An annual Waterwise Gardening Expo has been held in the Geelong Botanic Gardens over the last few years.

The Waterwise Gardening Expo focuses on waterwise gardening practices and sustainable water use. The event highlights water saving measures such as the planting of indigenous gardens, mulching, efficient irrigation systems and watering practices, use of rainwater tanks and grey water systems and the regulation behind the use of alternative water sources for garden watering and renewable energy sources.

The event has been supported by: Barwon Water, Gordon Institute of TAFE, the Rotary Club of Highton, the Geelong Botanic Gardens and the City of Greater Geelong.

Waterwise Gardening

The Friends are an excellent all year resource for anyone looking to plan or plant a drought tolerant, waterwise garden. Intelligent gardeners are using these times to test new plants and transform old gardens into water smart places. Great ‘Drought Dynamos’ are available through the Friends Nursery, particuarly succulents and pelargonium.
